The story of Riemer Blonk

The start

I started karting in 2015, when I was just seven years old. That’s when I joined the indoor karting lessons at KWM, where I learned the basics of racing—like ideal, racing lines and track etiquette.

I’ll never forget my time at KWM. At the end of 2015, I raced my very first outdoor kart race in the Honda Cadet class at the Spa Francorchamps kart track. From that moment on, I was completely hooked.

First podium

On the day my dad turned 49, I scored my very first podium, racing with number 49 at the legendary Kerpen kart track, where Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel made their names.

Since then, 49 has been my go-to race number whenever possible. In 2018, I celebrated my very first win in the IAME X30 Cadet class during the Dutch National Championship in Assen.

Racing license

In 2022, I took both the theory and practical exams for my EU racing license at the Zandvoort circuit. I had already done several track days, so everything seemed to be going smoothly.

The track was half wet, and just thirty minutes before the practical exam I crashed. My dad’s race car? Totaled. So yeah, we had to scramble to find another car fast. But in the end, I passed the exam that same day, and that’s when my journey into car racing really began.

BMW 240 i

In October 2024, I had a test day in the BMW 240i at the Zandvoort circuit. In the morning, I did a test session with Team Witte Raaf Racing.

In the afternoon, I worked on my lap times with a driver coach and a data engineer at Dayvtec. By the end of the day, I was running at a pace good enough for the top 5 in the championship.

2025 season

In the 2025 season, I’m racing in the Mercedes SLK Cup with Vuik Motorsport, part of the DNRT series. It’s a cup class with equal cars, which means it’s up to the driver to make the difference. The races take place in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany.

I’m also competing in the BMW 240i Cup with Team Witte Raaf Racing. This is another cup class with identical cars, and the races are held in the Netherlands and Belgium.

Road to Le Mans

My biggest dream and ultimate goal is to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

In the coming years, gaining experience and climbing the motorsport ladder will be key. The road to my goal won’t be easy, but I’m ready to give it everything I’ve got to turn this dream into reality.
